Producer Information
Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott is a small wine estate in the Northern Rhne Valley. A range of red and white wines are made from several appellations within the region. Julie Bott was born in the region, while Graeme Bott is from New Zealand. They met while working for Stephane Ogier, a producer in Cte Rtie, and decided to create their own wine estate. Graeme also has experience working in the Hawke’s Bay and Waiheke Island regions of New Zealand, plus the Canberra region of Australia. He regards Tim Kirk of Clonakilla as his winemaking mentor Together they planted Viognier and Syrah vines in granite and schist-based sites within the appellations of Condrieu, Cte-Rtie and Saint-Joseph and in the commune Seyssuel. The latter lies to the north of Cte Rotie and Ampuis, on the other, eastern, bank of the river. The wines from here are currently classified as IGP Collines Rhodaniennes, though the area is expected to gain AOP status soon. The first three vintages were made in the garage of Julie and Graeme’s home among the vineyards of Condrieu. They have now expanded to a cellar in Ampuis, but production volumes are still very small. The regular range currently begins with the First Flight Viognier and Syrah, which are classified as Vin de France. The fruit comes from parcels at the edge of the Cte Rotie / Ampuis and Condrieu zones. The top white wine is a Condrieu, the original, classic expression of Viognier. There is also Crozes-Hermitage Blanc and white Saint-Joseph Blanc. Both are mainly Roussanne, combined with Marsanne. The First Flight cuve and a Cte Rtie are the bookends of a quartet of red wines made from Syrah. The others are a Crozes-Hermitage and a Saint Joseph.
