Producer Information
Domaine Rostaing, often called Ren Rostaing after its founder, is a leading wine estate in the Cte-Rtie region of the Northern Rhne, and particularly known for its Syrah-based wines. The first Rostaing wine was produced in 1971 when the estate covered a mere 1.5 hectares (3.7 acres) split between the Cte Blonde and La Landonne subregions of the Cte Rtie. This slowly grew as Rostaing purchased additional plots and the took over his uncle’s and his father-in-law’s vineyards. Today the domaine has just over seven hectares (18 acres) of vineyards in the wider Cte Rtie a sizeable holding by the region’s standards plus one hectare (2.5 acres) in the white wine (Viognier-based) appellation of Condrieu, which produces the La Bonnette cuve. Rostaing also owns a small plot in Lzardes, on the northern border of Cte Rtie, where he makes Syrah and Viognier wines under the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes designation. Rostaing makes several Cte Rtie wines. This includes cuves from both the La Landonne and Cte Blonde subregions, and the Ampodium, which comes from other sites within the appellation. These are aged in a mix of regular and large-format barrels, with a very small proportion of new oak. Rostaing also owns an estate near Nmes where it produces wines under the Languedoc appellation.
