Chteau Cardinal Villemaurine combines in its name the memory of Cardinal Gaillard de la Mothe, nephew of Pope Clement V, and that of an observation camp established during the Arab invasion of the 8th century. Even today, the ruins of the Cardinal Palace can be seen near the property. Note the phrase from Cardinal de Sourdis whose favorite wine was Chteau Cardinal-Villemaurine and who declared it: King of wines! Jean Franois CARRILLE is also the owner of the castles Clos Villemaurine in Saint Emilion, Caillou les Martins in Lussac, and the castle of Fussignac in Petit Palais.
