Deep, dark ruby-red is virtually opaque. Dark fruit on the nose is closed & cedary. Classic cassis fruit is nicely lifted by good acidity. There is still plenty of cedary tannins though. Alcohol is balanced the finish lasts passably well but could be more lively with a touch more acidity.

      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: One of the great sleepers of the vintage and probably the best Clos de Marquis I have ever tasted, this wine could easily compete with many of the vintage’s classified growths. Dense, opaque purple-colored, with creme de cassis, vanilla, and cherry notes, medium to full body, an unctuous texture, low acidity, and a more evolved style than its bigger sibling, Leoville Las Cases, this dense, chewy, remarkably concentrated and stylish wine should be at its best between 2005 and 2018.
      • Wine Spectator: The nose shows loads of plum, spice and meat aromas, as well as hints of licorice. It’s full-bodied, with firm, yet velvety textured tannins. It’s big and rounded. If you can’t afford Las Cases, try some of this. Some might call this a second wine, but it comes from a plot of vineyards not deemed worthy of Loville Las Cases. So it’s like its own estate.

Chteau Loville-Las Cases is an estate in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux, ranked as a second growth in the 1855 Classification of the Mdoc and Graves. Typical of the appellation, Chteau Loville-Las Cases is Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant, with smaller amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The estate has a history dating back to the mid-17th Century, when it used to be part of a much larger estate. During the French Revolution (1789-1799) the estate was divided in two with a small section becoming Chteau Loville Barton. In 1840, the original estate was again divided, creating Chteau Loville-Poyferre. All three of the Loville chteaux were named in the 1855 Classification as second growths, but Loville-Las Cases remains the largest.
