Producer Information
Roc de Cambes is a premier wine producer from the Cotes de Bourg appellation in Bordeaux. It produces a Merlot-based Bordeaux blend as well as the Domaine de Cambes, that is sold as Bordeaux AOC. The historic chteau was purchased by Franois Mitjavile, owner of Saint-Emilion’s esteemed Chteau Le Tetre-Rtebouef, in 1988. Constructed in the mid to late 1700s, the chteau required extensive modernizations and renovations. Vineyards are situated on south-facing slopes near the Gironde, and cover 12 hectares (30 acres) of land. Vines are planted to deep clay-limestone soils and are close to 50 years of age and therefor produce low yields with concentrated flavor compounds. Merlot comprises well over a half of the total plantings here at around 85 percent, with a smaller portion of Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate’s wine is vinified in temperature-controlled concrete tanks before barrel maturation in 50 percent new French oak for 18 to 24 months.
