        Producer Information

Chteau Doisy-Dane is an esteemed estate known for its sweet white wines, located in the Barsac commune within Bordeaux. It is a Grand Cru Class Second Growth under the classification of 1855, which took place in Sauternes and Barsac at the same time as the famous classification of the Mdoc and Graves. Doisy-Dane has been owned by the Dubourdieu family since 1924. The estate makes three wines from 18 hectares (45 acres) of vineyard. These are planted mostly to Semillon, with a small portion of Sauvignon Blanc. The Grand Vin is thus predominantly Semillon, and is made from botrytis-affected grapes. In exceptional vintages, a second wine called L’Extravagant de Doisy-Dane is made as well, although this is designated under the Sauternes appellation. Barsac is the only one of the five villages within the Sauternes viticultural area to have its own appellation. L’Extravagant takes advantage of laws that allow estates to choose between the two designations. Doisy-Dane also makes a dry, barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc, the Chteau Doisy-Dane Grand Vin Sec. This carries the broad Bordeaux AOC designation. The estate was once part of a larger property which was divided into three individual chteaux in the mid-19th Century. Chteau Doisy-Vdrines and Doisy-Dubroca are also Grand Cru Class Second Growths, known for their dessert wines made with botrytized grapes. Doisy-Dane is one of five chteaux owned by the Dubourdieu family. All located in Bordeaux, the other estates are Chteaux Reynon, Cantegril, Haura and Clos Floridne. Denis Dubourdieu (1949-2016) was an acclaimed enologist and director of the Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences of the University of Bordeaux.
