Producer Information
Domaine Franois Mikulski is a well-regarded producer based in the town of Meursault in the Cte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy. The domaine covers eight hectares (20-acre) of vineyard with plots in six premier cru sites in Meursault and one in Volnay, with production split between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Franois Mikulski inherited the domaine from his maternal grandfather, Claude Boillot, and the domaine produced its first vintage in 1992. Today, the portfolio is largely centered on Chardonnay, with wines made from the Les Gouttes d’Or, Genevrires, Charmes, Porusot and Perrires premier cru climats in Meursault. Mikulski also makes a generic Meursault cuve, as well as a Bourgogne Blanc and a Bourgogne Aligot. The red wine portfolio includes wines from the Meursault Les Caillerets and Volnay Santenots du Milieu premier cru climats. Mikulski also makes Pommard and Bourgogne Rouge wines, as well as a Bourgogne Passe-tout-grains wine, a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir. The white grape varieties are first pressed and later aged on their lees for 12 months in 20 percent new oak barrels. Once fully mature, the white wines are blended and fined prior to bottling. For the red wines, the Pinot Noir grapes are destemmed and fermented in vats for 15-17 days. The wines are then aged in oak barrels for a minimum of 14 months, using around a third new oak for the Pommard and premier cru wines. The Gamay grapes also undergo carbonic maceration in order to retain their characteristic fruit aromas. Domaine Franois Mikulski produces approximately 50,000 bottles of wine each year. The distinctive black and white labels that adorn these bottles are inspired by the chalk marks used to differentiate the wines in the cellars.
