The Bachelet-Monnot 2019 1er Cru La Fussire is really concentrated, with masterful intensity in all senses, but still with elegance. Perfectly ripe deep cherry-raspberry fruit with a long finish, fuller-bodied than ever in the past and without the trenchant acidity that used to be a feature sometimes.

        Producer Information

Domaine Bachelet-Monnot was established by Marc and Alexandre Bachelet in 2005 and is situated in Dezize-ls-Maranges, a commune of Maranges at the southern end of the Cte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy. The wider estate covers around 20 hectares (50 acres) of estate-owned and contracted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines in climats including grand cru vineyards in Bienvenues-Btard-Montrachet and Btard-Montrachet. Additional holdings include premier cru plots in Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Maranges itself (in particular, 50 percent of the Clos de la Boutire vineyard). The Bachelet brothers are descended from a long-line of Burgundian winemakers, and together they cultivate a combination of family-owned and leased vineyards covering a total of 20 appellations and producing 8300 cases of wine per year. No herbicides are used in the farming of the vineyards and yields are kept purposefully low through debudding. Grapes are harvested by hand and, in general, the wines age in 25 percent new oak barrels for approximately 12 months before racking and aging on their lees for six to eight months in bottle. In addition to its grand and premier cru wines, Domaine Bachelet-Monnot makes a range of white and red village-level wines from vineyard plots in Santenay, Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet. These wines sit alongside the domaine’s expressions of Bourgogne Rouge and Blanc.
