The bouquet reveals a perfectly ripe, refined and elegant yet also intense dark fruit aroma reminiscent of blackberries and cherries intermixed with leather and some distinctive flinty aromas. Quite open from this bottle but highly attractive. Silky, round and with remarkable finesse and tension, this is a full-bodied, concentrated and quite tannic Chinon with a still astringent finish but with enough sweetness and intensity for good aging potential.

Producer Information

Domaine Bernard Baudry is a wine producer in Chinon, in the Loire Valley. The estate specializes in single-varietal red and ros wines made from Cabernet Franc and has a smaller range of white wines made exclusively from Chenin Blanc. Founder, Bernard Baudry, established the domaine in 1975 with a 2 hectare (5 acre) plot of vines. The domaine has since grown, both with the addition of Bernard’s son Matthieu to the family business, and with the expansion of the vineyards to their current 32ha (79 acres) size. The vineyards are mainly planted to Cabernet Franc and a small percentage of Chenin Blanc on soils that range from gravel, to limestone-clay and sandy limestone. In the winery, minimal intervention practices are utilized to exhibit the terroir of each plot. Only wild yeasts are used for fermentation with no additives or temperature control. All red wines are bottled without filtration.
