Select Barrels are chosen for this small match Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey by their Master Distiller. The aroma of vanilla and oak gives way to delightful hints of caramel, leather, and honey. Very light, you really have to dig into it to get some unique notes. Its mainly vanilla and fruit cocktail syrup. Unfortunately, it has a natural flavoring type of nose going on and I could see this reminding someone of a vanilla candle. Im iffy on the overall quality of the nose. Vanilla and artificial fruit flavors are the main and dominant flavors here. The artificial fruit is somewhere between a pear and cherry. Im not getting any of the classic oak or caramel. I thought this was the same mashbill as Buffalo Trace? This reminds me more of Ancient Age and/or Ancient Age 10 Star than a baby Eagle Rare as some call it. Finally some of that rye spice sneaking through on the finish. Little bit of vanilla to compliment that rye, but all in all it goes away as quick as expected.
