At a time when more and more South African winemakers are opting for varietal wines, it is good to see those who, despite all the trends, are sticking to tried-and-tested recipes.Haskell’s flagship cuve is an example of the fact that the whole is often more than the sum of its parts: Cabernet Sauvignon provides the framework and provides tannins and aromas.The slightly richer Merlot ensures that the wine is voluminous and powerful on the palate, while the Cabernet Franc adds finesse and fruit, while the small but far from insignificant amount of Petit Verdot contributes colour, structure and an engaging floral tone.

All four grape varieties feel comfortable in wood, which is why the wine was aged exclusively in new barriques.

Style & Flavors: Dark cherries, cedar, blueberries and dark chocolate.The Haskell IV is intense and punchy, yet also inviting and juicy;with firm tannins that give it tension and energy.It is densely woven and substantial and constantly pushes towards the palate.After more than three years in the bottle, the texture is soft, the body is balanced and the finish is delicately spicy and persistent.
