The 2021 La Fleur-Ptrus is a regal, elegant wine. Rich and sumptuous, yet classically medium in body, the 2021 is impeccably balanced from start to finish. A rush of red/purplish fruit, rose petal, mint, blood orange and cinnamon build into the exquisite, layered finish.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: The 2021 La Fleur-Ptrus is performing nicely, exhibiting aromas of plums, cherries, sweet soil tones, loamy soil and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and seamless palate that’s lively and charming.
- James Suckling: Very polished with fine tannins that finish intensely. Its a medium-to full-bodied red with focus. Blackberry and blackcurrant flavors. Hints of tobacco and nutmeg, too.
Producer Information
Chteau La Fleur-Ptrus is a wine estate in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest in the region. The wine is Merlot-dominant, and is known for its finesse, elegance and ageworthiness. The estate vineyard extends to just under 19 hectares (46 acres) and is planted chiefly to Merlot (91 percent) with six percent Cabernet Franc and three percent Petit Verdot. The core vineyard is situated across the road from Chteau Ptrus and adjacent to Chteau Lafleur in the eastern quadrant of the Pomerol appellation. This site has more gravel than either of its neighbors, which likely has a role in the more refined style of the wine. La Fleur-Ptrus is typically vinified in cement and stainless steel, and then aged in a mixture of new and old French oak for 18 months. Annual production is around 45,000 bottles. The property was bought by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953, but was largely replanted after the frosts of 1956. The property was enlarged in 1994 after vines (and a country house built in 1782) were purchased from Chteau Le Gay and again in 2012 with the purchase of a plot near Le Pin.
